22 Things I Want You, My Little Girl, to Remember

  1. You won’t be “more than” if you get married, and you won’t be “less than” if you don’t.
  2. You can be “blessed with children” and “blessed without children.”
  3. You can love your family and love your work; they aren’t mutually exclusive.
  4. You can submit to your husband without surrendering, and you can surrender to your husband without submitting; I don’t suggest the later.
  5. Your jean size will never measure anything else in your life, except your jean size.
  6. Your weaknesses can be your strengths, and your strengths can be your weaknesses.
  7. Your feelings are just that…your feelings.
  8. You can spend your hours worrying about what others think of you, or you can spend your hours living your life.
  9. You can be a wonderful woman who cooks, and you can be a wonderful woman who doesn’t; both women can still feed their families.
  10. Your choice of friends will speak volumes about YOU.
  11. You can actually be a woman who likes, loves, and WANTS sex; that “headache thing” is just a stereotype.
  12. You don’t have to always want what you used to want; priorities change and so do dreams.
  13. Your closet doesn’t have to look like the inside of a department store…it’s a closet.
  14. You will never find “true peace” in restricting your calories, counting your calories, or obsessing over your calories.
  15. You will never appease everyone and that’s okay…none of us made you for “our good pleasure.”
  16. You won’t always be happy, so don’t buy that lie or work for that lie.
  17. You will never be “so and so” because “so and so” isn’t YOU.
  18. You don’t have to feel beautiful to be beautiful.
  19. You don’t have to “live up to your mother’s standards” because your mother doesn’t want to be “the standard.”
  20. You don’t have to be “up front” to teach the Word of God, and you don’t have to be “sitting down” to teach it either.
  21. You can spend your time striving for perfection and/or feigning perfection but in the end…you will have lost.
  22. You will find joy in all kinds of places, but you will only find LASTING JOY in ONE PLACE.
