Future Daughter, You Are More Than…

The looks you have or the ones you don’t.

The shape of your belly, the width of your hips, the length of your legs, and the size of your ears…

The image in the mirror, the pictures in the books, the models in the windows, and the girls sitting near…

They don’t define you.

The friends you make or the ones you don’t.

The hipsters, the jocks, the pranksters, and the queens…

The loyal ones, the ugly ones, the gifted ones, and all the ones between…

They don’t define you.

The foods you eat or the ones you don’t.

The fast food, the organic, the sugars, and the fats…

The healthy, the nutritious, the gourmet, and non-fat…

They don’t define you.

The jobs you work or the ones you don’t.

The popular vocation, the underpaid position, the prestigious career, or the unknown trade…

The menial tasks, the important duties, the un-thanked functions, or the work unpaid…

They don’t define you.

The clothes you wear or the ones you don’t.

The name-brand, the off-brand, the new, and gently-used…

The preppy fads, the classic fashions, the trendy looks, or the styles most confused…

They don’t define you.

The abilities you enjoy and the ones you don’t.

The musician, the athlete, the writer, or the artist…

The leader, the helper, the inventor, or the smartest…

They don’t define you.

The activities you do or the ones you don’t.

The cooking clubs, the music groups, the yoga classes, or the Bible studies …

The dancing groups, the bowling leagues, the shopping society, or the coffee-sipping buddies…

They don’t define you.

The traits you possess or the one you don’t.

The thoughtful-soul, the logical brain, the giving heart, or the creative mind…

The hard-working optimist, the easy-going dreamer, the go-getter expert, or the sweet-loving kind…

They don’t define you.

The things you own or the the ones you don’t.

The houses and cars, the devices and gadgets, and all the things that glitter with gold…

The stocks and savings, the clothes and couches, and all the things that stores can hold…

They don’t define you.

The roles you play and the ones you don’t.

Single, employed, married, or home-maker…

Daughter, sister, friend, or baby-bearer…

They don’t define you.

No, they don’t define you.

Love,

Mama

  1. Beautiful! And very…very true!! Also a good reminder to us mother’s that feel we need to live up to an ideal to be the “perfect” mother.
